Tuberculosis / Tibèkiloz
ENGLISH — Introduction
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection caused by bacteria. It usually affects the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body.
TB spreads through the air when a person with active TB in the lungs or throat coughs, speaks, or sings. People nearby can breathe in the bacteria.
Inactive TB (latent TB infection): The person has TB bacteria in their body but does not feel sick, has no TB symptoms, and cannot spread TB to others. Treatment helps prevent it from becoming active.
Active TB disease: The bacteria are multiplying and causing illness. Active TB in the lungs or throat can spread to others.
KREYÒL — Entwodiksyon
Tibèkiloz (TB) se yon enfeksyon bakteri lakòz. Li pi souvan afekte poumon, men li ka afekte lòt pati nan kò a tou.
TB transmèt nan lè lè yon moun ki gen TB aktif nan poumon oswa nan gòj touse, pale oswa chante. Moun ki toupre ka respire bakteri yo.
TB inaktif (enfeksyon TB latan): Moun nan gen bakteri TB nan kò li, men li pa santi li malad, li pa gen sentòm TB, epi li pa ka transmèt TB bay lòt moun. Tretman ede anpeche li vin aktif.
Maladi TB aktif: Bakteri yo ap miltipliye epi yo lakòz maladi. TB aktif nan poumon oswa nan gòj ka transmèt bay lòt moun.
ENGLISH — Signs and Symptoms
Active TB in the lungs may cause:
• A cough lasting 3 weeks or longer
• Chest pain
• Coughing up blood or phlegm
• Fever or chills
• Night sweats
• Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
• Weakness or tiredness
Report possible TB symptoms promptly to the agency nurse. Do not wait until a cough has lasted 3 weeks to report concerns. These symptoms can have other causes; a healthcare professional must evaluate them.
KREYÒL — Siy ak Sentòm
TB aktif nan poumon ka lakòz:
• Tous ki dire 3 semèn oswa plis
• Doulè nan pwatrin
• Touse san oswa flèm
• Lafyèv oswa frison
• Swe lannuit

ENGLISH — Protect Yourself and Others
• Report suspected or confirmed infectious TB to the agency nurse immediately. The nurse must arrange the appropriate care and precautions.
• TB spreads through the air. Gloves and handwashing alone do not protect you from breathing in TB bacteria.
• When caring for someone with suspected or confirmed infectious TB, use the respiratory protection required by the agency, such as a properly fitted N95 respirator.
• Before using a required respirator, you need medical clearance, training, and fit testing. A surgical mask does not replace an N95 respirator for the caregiver.
• If you do not have the required protection or training, contact the supervisor immediately for a safe care arrangement.
• Follow the nurse’s instructions about ventilation and having the patient wear a surgical mask, if tolerated, to help reduce spread.
KREYÒL — Pwoteje Tèt Ou ak Lòt Moun
• Si yo sispèk oswa konfime pasyan an gen TB ki ka transmèt, avèti enfimyè ajans lan tousuit. Enfimyè a dwe òganize swen ak prekosyon ki nesesè yo.
• Suiv enstriksyon enfimyè a sou vantilasyon ak sou mete yon mask chirijikal sou pasyan an, si li ka sipòte li, pou ede diminye transmisyon.
ENGLISH — After a Possible TB Exposure
• Notify the agency nurse or supervisor promptly, even if you feel well.
• Arrange a medical evaluation and follow the testing instructions.
• If your previous TB test was negative, testing is generally needed immediately and again 8–10 weeks after the last exposure.
• If you have a documented previous positive TB test, tell the healthcare provider. You generally need a symptom evaluation rather than another TB test.
• Report any new TB symptoms immediately. Do not wait for the follow-up test.

KREYÒL — Apre yon Posib Ekspozisyon ak TB
• Avèti enfimyè oswa sipèvizè ajans lan san pèdi tan, menm si ou santi ou byen.
• Fè yon evalyasyon medikal epi suiv enstriksyon pou tès yo.
• Si dènye tès TB ou te negatif, an jeneral ou bezwen fè yon tès tousuit epi yon lòt 8–10 semèn apre dènye ekspozisyon an.
• Si ou gen prèv yon ansyen tès TB pozitif, di pwofesyonèl lasante a sa. An jeneral, ou bezwen yon evalyasyon sentòm olye yon lòt tès TB.
• Rapòte nenpòt nouvo sentòm TB tousuit. Pa tann pwochen tès la.

ENGLISH — Introduction
HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Its Privacy Rule protects identifiable patient health information, called Protected Health Information (PHI).
PHI can be spoken, written on paper, or stored electronically. Examples include a patient’s name connected with their diagnosis, medications, care plan, medical records, or payment information.
Caregivers must protect patient information and follow the agency’s privacy policies. Access patient information only when authorized for your work. Curiosity is not a valid reason to open a patient’s record.

Universal Precautions / Prekosyon Inivèsèl
ENGLISH — Introduction
Universal Precautions means treating all human blood and certain other potentially infectious body fluids as if they could carry infections such as HIV or hepatitis B.
You cannot tell whether someone has an infection by looking at them. Use precautions based on the task and possible exposure.
Standard Precautions expand on Universal Precautions and apply to every patient. They include hand hygiene, appropriate protective equipment, safe handling of sharps, and cleaning of equipment and surfaces.
Some infections, such as tuberculosis and influenza, require additional precautions. Follow the agency’s instructions and the patient’s care plan.
KREYÒL — Entwodiksyon
Prekosyon Inivèsèl vle di konsidere tout san moun ak sèten lòt likid kò ki ka enfektye kòm likid ki ka transmèt enfeksyon tankou VIH oswa epatit B.
Ou pa ka konnen si yon moun gen yon enfeksyon sèlman lè ou gade li. Itilize prekosyon selon travay la ak risk ekspozisyon an.
Prekosyon Estanda yo pi laj pase Prekosyon Inivèsèl yo epi yo aplike pou chak pasyan. Yo gen ladan netwaye men, itilize ekipman pwoteksyon ki apwopriye, manyen objè pikan san danje, ak netwaye ekipman ak sifas.
Kèk enfeksyon, tankou tibèkiloz ak grip, bezwen lòt prekosyon anplis. Suiv enstriksyon ajans lan ak plan swen pasyan an.

• Itilize dezenfektan men ki gen alkòl ajans lan apwouve lè men ou pa vizibman sal. Fwote tout sifas men yo jiskaske yo sèk.
• Lave ak savon ak dlo lè men ou vizibman sal, anvan ou manje, epi apre ou itilize twalèt. Fwote pandan omwen 20 segonn, rense epi seche.
• Mete gan lè ou prevwa kontak ak san, likid kò, po ki blese oswa bagay kontamine.
• Chanje gan ant pasyan yo epi lè ou pase soti nan yon travay sal pou fè yon travay pwòp.
• Pa janm lave oswa reutilize gan jetab. Gan pa ranplase netwaye men.

ENGLISH — Introduction
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) attacks the body’s immune system, which helps fight infections.
AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is the most advanced stage of HIV infection, when the immune system is severely damaged. Having HIV does not automatically mean a person has AIDS.
There is currently no cure for HIV, but treatment called antiretroviral therapy (ART) can control the virus and help people live long, healthy lives.
You cannot tell whether someone has HIV by looking at them. Testing is the only way to know.
